Facts & Figures: Salaries Worth N2.295bn Paid To Buhari, Osinbajo, Others (See breakdown details)

Facts & Figures: Salaries Worth N2.295bn Paid To Buhari, Osinbajo, Others

A critical examination of the report indicates that Mr. President has an annual basic salary of N3.51m, Vice- President N3.03m, while Ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Head of Service and Chairmen of Boards of statutory agencies have N2.02m respectively.

Substantial cuts in the salaries of both President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Professor Yemi Osinbajo earlier announced when the duo came to office last year may be nothing to write home about as both of them including Cabinet Ministers and other political appointees pocketed the sum of N2.295 billion as official salaries and allowances in the last one year, Economic Confidential can report.

The development is coming at a time the Federal Government kick-started a national orientation campaign premised on the “Change Begins with me.”

In the report obtained by the Economic intelligence magazine which shows the official remunerations of the President, Vice-President, cabinet ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Head of Service of the Federation amongst other Chief executives, are in tandem with the approval of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The packages include: annual salaries, accommodation, vehicle maintenance/fuel, Personal Assistant, House maintenance, domestic staff, entertainment and utilities allowances. Other allowances are: Constituency allowance, Hardship allowance, newspapers and monitoring allowances.

A critical examination of the report indicates that Mr. President has an annual basic salary of N3.51m, Vice- President N3.03m, while Ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Head of Service and Chairmen of Boards of statutory agencies have N2.02m respectively.

As for members of constitutional bodies, Special advisers, Speech writers, Directors General, Accountant General of the Federation, Permanent Secretaries, CEOs of agencies and INEC Resident Electoral Commissioners each have an annual basic salary of N1.9m.

The report shows that only the President and the Vice-President in the Executive arm of government enjoy the hardship allowances of 50 percent each of their annual basic salaries; 250 percent as Constituency Allowances and enjoy other perks to be provided (TBP) by government. These benefits to be provided to the two leaders include, but not limited to the following: Accommodation, Furniture, Domestic Staff, Personal Assistants, Utilities Newspapers, Vehicles, Entertainment, Maintenance and Estacode.

Meanwhile other appointees including Ministers, Advisers, Permanent Secretaries and INEX Resident Commissioners are entitled to 200 percent of their annual basic salary for Accommodation; 300 percent for Furniture; 75 percent for Vehicle maintenance and fuel; 25 percent for Personal Assistant; 75 percent for domestic staff; 45 percent for entertainment; 30 percent for utilities; 15 percent for newspapers, and 20 percent for monitoring.

While President and Vice President duty tours and estacode will be provided by government, other officers have fixed rates. The estacode allowance per day for minister, SGF, Head of Service and Chairmen of Board is $1000 per night on foreign trip, Member of constitutional bodies $900 per night, Special Adviser and Speech Writer $800 per night while Permanent Secretary, Director General and INEC Electoral Commissioner take $600 per night each on foreign trips.

Further checks by Economic Confidential reveals that an average Nigerian worker with a minimum wage of N18,000 a month will have to work for more than four years before earning the utility allowance for Ministers of the federal Republic. Unless the remuneration package is reviewed downward for the political appointees and upward for the Civil servants the executives will continue to enjoy the current salaries and allowances.

The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) determines and fixes the remuneration packages of public and political office holders, while the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission fixes the salaries and allowances of civil servants in Nigeria.

LEARN How To Quit Your Job And Follow Your Dreams Without Going Broke

How To Quit Your Job And Follow Your Dreams Without Going Broke

How To Quit Your Job And Follow Your Dreams Without Going Broke

Many people grow up with great aspirations. Their dreams are usually planned out with a perfect ending, where they are completely fulfilled in life and truly happy. But as much as we’ve the power to dream, we end up having to work with whatever life throws at us, which is usually completely different from what we envisaged.

Pursuing our dreams always seems a lot harder than perceived, especially when we’re caught up in a job that gives us little to no time to discover our true selfs and follow the path we’re meant to be on. The issue of financial security outside a job also sends cold chills running through our spines because, the possible outcome of whatever business or passion we set to pursue is never always guaranteed.

If you’re caught up in this trap and are looking for smart ways to make your transition to an entrepreneurial life a far-less regrettable one, here’s how to quit your job and follow your dreams without going broke:

1). Start A Business Before You Quit Your Job:

The first thing to do before quitting your job to start a business, is to run a pilot of the business on the side, while you’re still earning a decent monthly income. Running a side business first, helps you know if the venture is going to be worth quitting your job over, and what prospects it has for you on the long run.

When the business shows great promise on a small scale, you can then quit your job to use the power of the multiplier effect to grow your business as a full time entrepreneur.

2). Don’t Invest More Than 30% Of Your Savings:

When you quit your job to follow your dreams, it’s important that you have enough cash saved up to help you through your early months of trials. You have to ensure that a financial lack won’t keep you constantly worried and looking towards the comfort of another job.

The best way to handle this is to start the business before you quit your job, then invest not more than 30% of your savings after you have left the job. This ensures that you’re trying out something that has already proven itself and has some financial backing, without you going broke.

3). Register A Company, Not Just An Enterprise:

One of the worst things an entrepreneur can experience is to allow a law suit have direct access to their personal finance, and not just their company’s. When your business is a registered company and not just an enterprise, it separates your personal liabilities from your company’s liabilities, and so, makes it extremely difficult for a law suit to get to your personal assets.

For example, if a business that’s worth $100,000 dollars gets sued for $250,000, the limitation of the liabilities end with the business. And even if the owner has a personal net worth outside of the business worth $300,000, his personal assets would not be affected; only that of the business would.

4). Get Insurance:

Getting insurance guarantees a certain degree of security for both you and your business, especially when you deal in commodities. By insuring your products, health, cars, properties, and more, you save yourself and your business a major cost if anything grave were to go wrong with them.

To follow your dreams is one thing, but to survive the process is another. If you want to scale through any hurdle that may spring up in the process of running a business, insurance is critical to your survival.

5). Remember Your Retirement:

Ensure you’re building up great retirement benefits by remitting a certain percentage of your monthly income to reputable pension bodies. This ensures that you’re not just trying to grow a successful business, but also securing your future in the event that anything goes wrong before or after you get old.

Check Yourself: One in Every 10 Nigerian Adult Has Type 2 Diabetes - Doctor Reveals

A prominent doctor in Nigeria has raised an alarm on the increase prevalence of diabetes affecting a great percentage of the adult population.

The Secretary-General of Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria, Dr. Olufemi Fasanmade, has said one out of every 10 adult Nigerians has Type-2 diabetes.

Fasanmade, who addressed journalists on behalf of the President of EMSON, Prof. Feyi Adegoke, put the figure of those suffering from the condition in the country at five million, but predicted that it will double to 10 million by 2026.

He made this disclosure on Thursday in Calabar, Cross River State, during the opening session of the 38th Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of EMSON.

Fasanmade said the situation calls for concern as over 420 million people suffer from the condition globally.

He said over 15 million people in Africa were currently being treated for diabetes, adding that a lot of awareness needed to be done to curb the spread.

He said, “Diabetes is on the increase and it calls for national concern. Globally, we have about 420 million persons suffering from diabetes and in Nigeria we have five million. This is much more than several other conditions that have national prominence. One in 10 adult Nigerians has ‘type 2’ diabetes and a few less have ‘type 1’.

“In the near future, it is believed that in Africa, which has about 15 million diabetic patients, by 2026 that number will double to 30 million and Nigeria will be moving from five to 10 million. In Nigeria, residents in the urban cities are more at risk of diabetes than those in the rural areas.

“The metropolitan cities have the highest rate of diabetes and that is because people are tending more towards western lifestyle of consuming more of alcohol drinks, smoking, consumption of fast food and others. These are some of the things that drive the epidemic that we are seeing.”

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the conference, Dr. Okon Essien, lamented that people were doing less of physical activities at the moment.

He added that lack of exercise, alcohol consumption and smoking were the reasons for increase in diabetes and obesity cases.

CBN Warns Nigerians Against 'MMM' Wonder Bank...See Shocking Revelations

The apex bank in Nigeria has warned Nigerians against the trending Ponzi scheme giving participants 30% interest on their saved funds.

Godwin Emefiele

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned Nigerians to be careful of any deposit money institution that is not insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) especially the trending MMM Nigeria community.

The bank through its the acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Isaac Okoroafor, made this known yesterday against the proliferation of wonder banks in the country in recent times, ThisDay reports.

Okoroafor said such deposit money institutions were dubious present Ponzi schemes.

“At times like this when the economy has suffered some decline, Nigerians should be very careful with those they deal with. Any institution that is not licensed by the CBN to accept deposits should not be given money to keep under any guise,” he advised.

He warned Nigerians to beware of the so-called wonder banks, explaining that they were makeshift institutions to dupe people.

“We can vouch for the banking system. The deposit money banks are the only licensed institutions to take deposits. If you need to deposit money in any form, go to any of the deposit money banks and put your money, you can buy fixed income instruments or invest in stocks,” he said.

Okoroafor said the CBN could not guarantee the unregistered institutions, insisting that when depositors lose money to them, the bank would not be able to help them.

“These people always come with very interesting propositions. These are fraudsters who are just out there to collect people’s money and run away as soon as they hit their target. There is no insurance because the NDIC does not even protect them against such risks when they occur,” the CBN said.

UPDATE: Emir Sanusi Offers President Buhari 3 Best Solutions To Overcome Economic Recession

Emir Sanusi Offers President Buhari 3 Best Solutions To Overcome Economic Recession

The Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has offered two solutions to President Muhammadu Buhari to overcome the current economic recession.

The first solution according to him is that President Muhammadu Buhari should seek advice from experts within and outside the government to proffer solutions to the economic crisis in the country.

Sanusi, who spoke during the week at the Government House in Kano, asked the President to engage forward thinking individuals to bail the country from the current recession.

Secondly, he urged wealthy Nigerians to assist the under-privileged in sustaining themselves while the recession lasts.

And lastly, the monarch said Nigerians, irrespective of their religious affiliations and political inclinations, should intensify prayers for the economic growth of the country.

Economic Recession: Nigerians Now Eating Lizards, Cats and Frogs to Survive....See details of where this is happening

Economic Recession: Nigerians Now Eating Lizards, Cats and Frogs to Survive
Some families in Kaduna have already been forced to eat leaves so as to survive because the rising cost of food stuff brought about by the current economic recession, could not allow them have the financial resources to visit the markets.
A youth leader, Malam Hassan Ahmed Rufa’i said that leaves such as “tafasa”, spinach, etc, had came to the rescue of these near-starving families, while lizards and cats might become endangered specie because some children were already seen hunting them to provide a cheap source of protein for their families.
Lamenting the increasing excruciating economic hardship, Rufa’i lashed at top political office holders, as well as the rich and affluent people in communities around Kawo, Unguwan Dosa, Hayin Banki and Unguwan Kanawa, saying they had the capability to assist the poor in their midst but were not living up the masses’ expectations.
“Some of them have gone on Hajj for the umpteenth time, while the money they spend making such regular hajj visits could have been used to buy food and feed several mouths. Hajj is incumbent upon a Muslim, once in a life time, if the person can afford it,” he emphasised.
He added that, “rice and maize as well as other staple food items have turned into precious commodities which only the rich and privileged could afford. Many of our people now feed on leaves, some cannot even cook the normal pate, they are seriously feeling the pang of an excruciating poverty. We pray the government should come to peoples rescue by establishing free feeding centers.
“The other time, I saw some children chasing a big agama lizard. When I asked them what they were doing, they said they want to kill it because its roasted meat was sweet. They added that even cats are longer spared because it is also a delicacy,” he said.
The youth leader challenged people in authority to explain how the food items donated to the state by Hajiya Aisha Buhari, were disbursed, alleging that there was little of no adequately publicity, if any, on how the items were distributed.
“People here are suffering; hunger is everywhere. If you go to the Masjid, you see people begging for money to buy food. Go to the hospitals, you see malnourished children everywhere needing medicare and the Doctors will say it’s either malaria or typhoid that is their ailment.
“Government should please come to our aid. It is capable of taking the people out of this predicament,” he insisted.
